Many people looking for a dentist also need a doctor, and this group lists the medical clinics, family physicians, urgent care and walk-in centers, hospitals, pediatricians, eye doctors, medical specialists and pharmacies near the dental practices on the site. Primary care in the US runs through family doctors and internists who coordinate referrals; urgent care centers handle minor injuries and illnesses without an appointment for far less than an emergency room; hospitals with emergency departments are the place for severe facial trauma or a dental infection that spreads. Pharmacies fill the antibiotics and pain medication a dentist prescribes and sell fluoride rinses and prescription-strength toothpaste.

After struggling for 5 years with an oral condition which severely impacted my quality of life, I came to this clinic with not much hope. But the treatment I received from Dr. Velupillai and Dr. Pawar was beyond exceptional. They were patient, compassionate and meticulous. The treatment worked like magic and I am on a recovery path. I would strongly recommend them for others who may be suffering from Oral Lichen Planus like me. Thank you Dr. Velupillai, Dr. Pawar.

The UCSF Sol Silverman Oral Medicine Clinic at UCSF has provided me with excellent care since mid-2023. Before I saw Dr. Piri, I had seen multiple dentists and periodontists. They always told me that they couldn't determine why my gums/teeth were in so much pain. When I first made my appointment with this clinic, I was skeptical whether they would be able to help me. Saying that I was positively surprised would be an understatement! Dr. Piri has not only been very competent but also very compassionate from my first intake onward. She found the cause of my pain and prescribed an effective treatment. Since then, I've been seeing her in 3 to 4 month intervals. She has always evaluated my dry mouth and gum pain issues in conjunction with my other medical history to find a comprehensive treatment approach. As another reviewer mentioned, residents do take care of the initial contact, but this should be expected given that UCSF is an academic research institution and a teaching hospital. Nevertheless, there is always a thorough consultation with Dr. Piri following the contact with the resident(s) where she addresses all the questions I may have. I also like Dr. Mishra, who I have been see

I was fortunate that my DDS advised me to look into UCSF Oral Medicine for an unusual chronic issue I was facing, specifically oral aphthuous ulcers and thrush. I believe the underlying cause this painful condition was my compromised immune system. After seeing a few ENTs, plus my PCP and DDS I was frustrated that they weren’t going away regardless of what I did. I engaged the Oral Medicine Clinic at UCSF and the experience was amazing. I was fortunate to be seen by Dr. Mishra and her outstanding team. I realized quickly that I was in the hands of a true scientist/doctor based on how she thoroughly examined and questioned me as did her associates. Ultimately, her multi-pronged approach to treating me proved effective. I was able to talk, eat and swallow again without difficulty. I feel quite lucky to have found this place and even with the distance from my house and the challenging parking at times, it was worth it. If you have ANY issues with your mouth beyond the abilities of your DDS, then consider the UCSF Oral Medicine clinic.

I want to acknowledge that the administrative staff at this clinic were professional and courteous. However, my clinical experience with Dr. Sivappiriyai Veluppillai, DDS was extremely concerning. I drove more than 75 miles in heavy rain because I was in acute distress, then waited nearly two hours to be seen. A resident did my intake and recorded several inaccurate details in my chart, including an ER visit that never happened. When the provider arrived, she spent about 5–10 minutes with me and was interrupted multiple times by staff knocking on the door. She seemed to rely almost entirely on the resident’s account and reached a diagnosis before completing a full exam. I corrected the resident’s narrative in the room, but the incorrect notes remained in the system. I was advised to take antifungal medication and told a biopsy could be scheduled after confirming insurance coverage, yet my main symptoms were not addressed. After the visit, the notes took days to be uploaded, and when I followed up, I received no direct response from the provider. Instead, I was told I needed to schedule another appointment just to get clarification. Subsequent evaluations from other specialists

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I’m so grateful for Dr. Mishra’s excellent patient care β€” I truly wouldn’t go anywhere else. She always calls me whenever there’s an issue, explains everything thoroughly, and comes across as both highly knowledgeable and genuinely caring. I also want to give a special shout-out to Thomas at the front desk, who’s incredibly personable and consistently provides excellent service, and to Cassady-the clinic supervisor and Kristi-the supervisor for the call centerβ€” who both personally called me to help resolve issues as they come up. This level of care, communication, and professionalism from the entire team really stands out β€” thank you all for going above and beyond! πŸ’›
